Sustainable Design Group - Egan Home
The home is a typical 1950s split level home in Arlington Virginia. The owners wanted a more modern open look and feel as well as more light in the living area. We gutted the living room, dining room, entry and kitchen areas and took out the flat ceiling to create a cathedral ceiling. The walls were brick on block and contained little to no insulation. We added spray foam insulation to the walls and roof to create an air tight and super insulated envelope. We added two skylights for additional light. The indirect lighting illuminates the ceiling at night to make the space feel much more open and bigger.
