Camden Incinerator Eco Renovation
The City of Camden has owned the subject property continuously from prior to 1877 to present. The site is approximately 4 acres in size. Throughout it's history, the property has had a number of different operations in support of the city. These include, parking for city vehicles, an asphalt batching plant, maintenance shops, an auto repair facility, a municipal incinerator, a solid waste transfer facility, a water pumping station, a water treatment facility, and storage for sodium chloride used in road deicing operations. The property is now abandoned and vacant.
The objective of this project is to renovate the Camden Incinerator into an organic, zero energy, zero water and zero waste office building. The building will be totally self sufficient for power, water and process all its own waste. The building will be connected to the grid primarily so it can sell its excess power back to the power company. The office is designed to provide the healthiest environment for the employees. Only natural and non toxic materials will be used in the renovation. The space will be designed with lots of natural day light. Continuous filtered ventilation air will insure fresh air at all times. The sun room on the south side will be filled with plants to further clean the air and add oxygen. This project will serve as an example of how an old building can be reclaimed and renovated with the smallest environmental foot and the healthiest environment for the people.
